About Arabella

Arabella Sheraton grew up reading her mom’s collection of Georgette Heyer novels, the queen of modern-day Regency romance, and of course, Jane Austen’s iconic Regency novels. Although Arabella’s literary background was in publishing and editing, she had never written fiction. Her first novel started out in response to her mom’s complaint that she had nothing new to read. That first Regency novel was The Dangerous Duke! Since then, Arabella has penned more authentic Regency novels and a romance self-help guide to finding the right partner, with useful quotes by none other than Jane Austen.
10 Fun Facts About Arabella
- Arabella Sheraton is a pseudonym but if I tell anyone who I really am, I’ll have to kill them…
- The image I use for Arabella is a portrait my grandmother painted many years ago of her best friend. It seemed a fitting tribute to my wonderful grandmother and her friendship.
- I love anything olde worlde, which means that since I write in the genre of Regency romance, perhaps I lived once upon a time in Jane Austen’s era. Who knows? I like to think so.
- Pride and Prejudice is my favorite Austen book and book-to-series adaptation. I just love Mr. Darcy, even when he is acting like a starched shirt.
- I have always loved reading romances set in the Regency era, and I think that has a lot to do with the fact that apart from my mom having all the Austen books, she was also an avid Georgette Heyer fan, and as a result, so am I.
- I am never short of ideas for a Regency novel and sometimes a title just pops into my head, something catchy and witty that rolls off the tongue. This is almost a challenge for me. Then I create a story around the title. It is amazingly easy. I have several on the backburner.
- My two favorite Regency novelists are Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer. If I had to choose one must-have book from these two authors, then Pride and Prejudice (Austen) and Arabella (Heyer). They are just perfect stories.
- If I say so myself, my books are charming, witty, with clever plots and all the things historical romance/Regency readers look out for – sparkling repartee, dastardly villains, strong heroes, unconventional heroines, and lots of adventure. I am also very particular about historical accuracy in my novels.
- I write as much as I can, when I can. I also have an editing job, so this tends to take up most of my day.
- I never expected my romance novels to be so successful, nor for fans to respond so well. I have had so many people email me to say they love the stories. This makes it all worthwhile.
